Since opening in Beijing in 2008, the Opposite House hotel has developed a commendable reputation for promoting the local art & design scene via hosting exhibitions, installations and related events. The hotel itself was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates; the name, The Opposite House, is derived from a translation of a Chinese word that historically describes the building located opposite the main house of a courtyard where guests would stay.
Following numerous collaborations with local creatives, Swire Hotels’ House Collection (The Opposite House, Beijing and The Upper House, Hong Kong) have joined forces with Leica to host a photography competition under the themes “Beijing Opposites” and “Hong Kong Views From The Top”. Entries are accepted from across the globe (as long as they fit the themes) and photos do not have to be taken with a Leica camera. The competition runs until 30 November. Details here.
